New IARU bandplan threatens AM

The following message is n behalf of the AM Forum team at amfone.net, reprinted here as a courtesy and to get their message out.

Please take a few minutes to consider what follows — some concerns a number of us have recently identified that are related to a suggested HF band plan coming from a group of volunteers known as the International Amateur Radio Union. This plan takes effect in January.
I would ask that you endorse and express these concerns yourself in an email to some of the key people in the IARU, some of whom have kindly offered to revise their plan in acknowledgment of the healthy and growing presence of AM activity on HF.

The following is a letter outlining these concerns that you may adapt in your own words, or simply incorporate as written in an email under your signature.
Thank you for taking the time. Amending proposals such as this will help preclude any regulatory moves in the future that could cause problems for AM operations. Achieving positive change will also allow the AM Community to support the IARU’s voluntary plan, which is not possible as it is now written.

Thank you for your consideration.

British RAYNET Whacker

From M3ECM
Spied recently at a RAYNET (British “ARES”) event was this whacker
mobile. Sporting a very hamsexy “RAYNET” board bolted to the roof rack,
complete with the
ultra-bright-no-whacker-should leave-the-house-without-one orange rotating beacon.

Not content with one antenna, he has a total of four:
Dual band 144/433MHz colinear (magmount)
Loaded HF vertical (bolted to roof rack)
70MHz quarter wave whip (magmount)
last and almost certainly least, an on-glass scanner antenna. Make your own mind up, but this guy is a total whack-job – ex british police and also was a member of St. John Ambulance….

Also spotted was this Rover with a “State of Georgia” plate on the front.

US amateur nailed for jamming Canadian repeater

From: http://www.rac.ca/news/world.htm#US%20Amateur

US Amateur fined by FCC for malicious interference to VE7RPT Repeater

Months of hard work tracking various sources of malicious interference directed at the VE7RPTrepeater, owned and operated by the BCFMCA and located on Mt Seymour, have finally begun to pay off.

On September 25th the FCC issued a Notice of Apparent Liability, including fines totaling $7,000, to James Grinton, K7VNI, located in BellinghamWashington. A copy of this notice is attached for your information.

Grinton repeatedly and maliciously interfered with the operation of VE7RPTon a frequent basis. During the last 2 years Grinton directed his malicious interference and harassment at the President of the BCFMCA, jammed phone patches and periodically flooded the repeater with music and other forms of intentional interference.

In early 2006 a team of Canadian Hams began tracking the interfering signals and quickly determined they originated south of the Canada/US border. A group of Hams in the USwere approached to provide assistance and the source of the interference was identified shortly thereafter. A number of independent confirmations were made to verify the location, the address of which was determined to be that of James Grinton, K7VNI.

A complaint was formally made to the FCC regarding this interference and the information collected by the combined Canadian and US tracking team was provided to the Seattleoffice of the FCC. An agent from the FCC Enforcement Bureau’s Seattle Office independently verified the location and source of the interference during late 2006 and a Warning of Interference to Communications Letter was sent to James Grinton, K7VNI, on January 19, 2007.

Grinton continued to interfere with the operation of VE7RPTafter receipt of the warning letter. In fact, the Seattleagent recorded over 160 violations during the period January 19, 2007to June 23, 2007.

A Notice of Apparent Liability, including fines totaling $7,000, was issued to James Grinton, K7VNI, on September 25, 2007.

This is the second of a series of interference complaints affecting repeaters in the Greater Vancouver area to be brought to a conclusion. Additional interference investigations are on-going.

Many thanks to all the people who devoted countless hours tracking and identifying the source of this interference. This is an excellent example of the tremendous spirit of cooperation that exists between Amateur Radio operators in both Canadaand the US. In addition, many thanks to the Seattleoffice of the FCC for their support and subsequent enforcement action.

(Thanks to the Greater Vancouver Amateur Radio Council (GVARC) Interference Committee)

Fun was had by checking in — we verified that, yes, our radios and/or computers actually still work.

Here are the check-ins:

VE6PWT Robert in Calgary, AB, Canada
KA4VFD Matt in TN, USA

and last but not least…

KC8RYW Jonathan (impromptu net control) in OH, USA.

PS: Someone needs to step up for net control next week. I’ll be busy earning a check to pay the bills during net time.

Edit by KD8CPP: I will try to take it, but I too will be busy earning a check/getting an education. If I get off from work, or have too much homework, don’t count on it. If I think I can take it, I will post a message on Tuesday evening.

Dangerous whacker UPDATE!

Well, it looks like he’s selling the car.

The following message appeared on his YouTube video page:

I have been harassed by the County Sheriffs and Local PD here in my area even though I work for to credible places here in the County and most all Law Enforcement in this area either knows me or knows of me but think I am a “wannabe cop” which sucks because I “Would Like to be a cop” which is a huge difference. I will be enrolling in an academy here within the next year, I need to do some physical conditioning and then I’ll feel confident going in, knowing I can meet their physical standards. So hit me up if you are interested in this beautiful car , thanks.

PS. NOTE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT IN MY AREA:
Thanks for pushing me out of this car and giving me the motivation to actually join an academy, I regret any extra time and money you had to spend on me for surveillance at my place of work and elsewhere. I am glad you haven’t had any reason to actually charge me with anything, simply because I’ve never used this setup Illegally. It’s simply a vehicle code violation that I’ve committed. I hope this car goes to someone just as responsible as myself and doesn’t end up in the hands of a person who might use this car in an illegal fashion. I am being a little sarcastic with this message simply because I feel a little violated with all the surveillance, but at the same time understand its your job and one day it will be mine as well. I’m sure I’ll have as hard of a time, when I finally make it through the academy and hit the streets and see cars just like this and have to wonder who that person is inside and wonder what he’s up to. So I give you credit for the efforts and like I say I am glad I’ve never used this setup illegally (penal code wise). Now as for vehicle code, I’m sure its been illegal all along, but that wont be a problem anymore, so again thanks for all the concern and good looking out for the county and making it a safer place for us all to drive.
Best Regards …..Keith

Well, Chalk up another Hamsexy victory, folks. Our network of friends in Law Enforcement have been in constant contact with their brothers in California and CHP, and have made them aware of this dangerous guy. Once again, we have another dangerous whacker off of our streets. Unlike our other victory, this guy didn’t get arrested – but he got scared straight, and I guess that’s all that matters.

Score!
