Western Connecticut Hamfest

David KC2JNS submitted these photos from the Western Connecticut Hamfest in Newtown CT. As you can see, ham radio is still a young, vibrant hobby on he cutting edge of technology and popular culture.

Since I was wiped out from buying a new set of wheels and starting the professional looking install, I had no topic, so we discussed the weather *GASP* and the merits of the 102 ” Whip *DOUBLE GASP*.

Jeep ratsnest

At first glance, it looks like an everyday, normal silver Jeep Liberty with an enormous lightbar. Upon closer look, the ratsnest prevents itself. Mark K8MHZ, our Michigan Bureau Chief, sent us these photos. This beast belongs to Shawn KB8UFI. As always, click on the photo for the largest image.

Tonight’s topic was: “What is the best and/or worst repeater in your area?” Several people had stories to tell of wide-ranged machines with impeccable audio quality and multiple VOIP features, while others reported machines overrun with old farts that do nothing but ragchew with their CB buddies and bitch about operating procedures whenever someone outside their clique dares to throw their call in.

As usual, a grand old time was had by all. Tune in again next week for another installment of the world’s most hated net!
