Poor TX and RX? Wonder why

The picture below is from a local MSS, D&D Communications at 13444 L Street, Omaha NE, near WB0QQK. The customer complained of poor TX and poor RX. We’ve all seen the CBer’s coathanger whips, and radio antennas, but this one probably takes the cake.

Does that bolt have a red tip? Maybe it’s just a bolt of the wrong band than the radio is. It’s easy to accidentally slap a VHF bolt onto a UHF radio.. 🙂

That reminds me… There was some goofball who attended Virginia Tech within the past few years who drove a Dodge Durango with a Uniden PC-68 CB in it and what did he have for an antenna? a Radio Shack 2M 5/8-wave mag-mount… I wonder if his finals have been fried or if he’s even picked up the mic yet.

Phenomenal. Reminds me of the time that I saw someone try to tune a paperclip on 160m… 😀

Without doing some hard math, that bolt may be resonant at 800 MHz.
