REACT invasion!!

We got this message from Henry KD8BAO, regarding an invasion of REACT whackers in a recent event he worked on in Cleveland. Tell us more, Henry:

This past weekend in Cleveland Oh, some other hams and myself were working a March of Dimes event. All was well until about three quarters of the way thru our event we get a bunch of goofs with lightbars, some of them were red, sirens, and stickers out the wazoo. The pictures dont do the scene justice. In picture 1 there are 8 of them (only about half of the cars/trucks/minivans they had). Shots 2 and 3 are just close ups showing the red lightbars.

Thanks for the photos, Henry!! (click to enlarge)

I think if I totalled in the worth of every vehicle in my old REACT club, it would probably come somewhere close to the total of the 3 doofballs in the CV’s and ranger spent on all their top of the line LED lightbars.

I like playing with whacker lights, but I don’t think I could justify spending 1300 bucks on a lightbar I couldn’t even use to run code.

To someone that has no idea about REACT, those Crown Vics would look like a subpar police car. Isn’t there a law against police “looking” cars?

  3. Lenny says:

Did they have a parade permit for that public display of lights and stickers?

seems like alot of dollars there

This was priceless… They were “escorting” a bunch of motorcycle clubs riding down for a support-our-troops rally being held at public sqare in downtown Cleveland, OH. The pictures don’t do this justice.

At one point I was standing outside Tower City Center just after a Cleveland Fire company went by to a nearby hotel and hearing the sirens coming across the Veterans Memorial Bridge I said, “Hmmm, sounds like a 2nd fire company is coming across” to the person next to me. Nope… it was 4 or 5 CVPIs and Pickup trucks with amber lightbars and sirens coming across who then blocked the intersection with /all five cars/. I was stunned… Think I’m going to yield for a yellow lightbar and a siren? Ummm, no.

So, to Rufus and the REACT guys! Thanks for the laugh!

It is amazing to the extent and expense the whackers will go through to get free coffee and donuts!
Btw, a few of the guys at Toronto ARES would love to have them pretty lights, sirens and whacker cars, and perhaps an old whacker ambulance too!

What?! REACT was there but no North Coast Emergency Services and their mailbox-lettered, yellow-lightbarred, rusted-out “response” vehicles?

  8. kb9khf says:

Well, as if anyone needed ANOTHER reason to avoid Cleveland.

  9. ki4yhf says:

    even the ectomobile showed up

  10. ku4my says:

Oooooo…. a station wagon, now if that’s not impressive, I don’t know what is!

The picture with the lone crown vic on the freeway reminds me of the “Blues Brothers”

  12. JohnnyGalaga says:

    What are “CV’s” and “CVPI’s”?

  13. kc0jar says:

Crown Vic and Crown Vic Police Interceptor
