Sorry for the noisy signal during the net. My FT8900 was in crossband mode when I first checked in. Sometimes when I cancel it and go to the local mike it still retransmits the offside receiver audio. I don’t know why and have no way of knowing it is happening.

On to the topic – As you may recall, I met you at Dayton this year. I also met a lot of other people and one inspiring person with a video camera interviewing hams, asking for names, hometowns, how did you get into ham radio, etc.

This man was a Science and Technology teacher at a high school and the video was for his students. As a condition of passing the subject, he makes every student study for their Tech licence. His school currently has 96 Hams! and it’s own repeater.

I think that is a very good way of getting the kids involved. $100’ish gets them a 2m HT, access to a strong local repeater, IRLP, the World. Then build on that, add cool things like tracking the ISS, packeting through it, other Hamsats, and before long, almost every aspect of technology can somehow be embellished by some facet of Ham Radio. It’s a very practical application of current technolgy, not a bunch of old sparks.

I tuned in to the stream at 9:10 eastern, and listened to it for about 15 min, and all I got was streaming OPP radio… did I miss something?

  3. ve3nsv says:

What day did you tune in? The net was streaming from 9:00pm until about 10:30pm on Wednesday night, before and after the net you might have heard the OPP while the BC796D unless you would rather hear dead air?

  4. ve3nsv says:

Make that while the BC796D was on scan, just got home from 14 hours of driving.

  5. richard says:

meh, I’m a retard. I tuned in Thursday night.

  6. VE3HBD says:

Ah come on, Richard… didn’t you know that we run the net on Fleetnet now? P25 and everything!! (grin)
