Jeep ratsnest

At first glance, it looks like an everyday, normal silver Jeep Liberty with an enormous lightbar. Upon closer look, the ratsnest prevents itself. Mark K8MHZ, our Michigan Bureau Chief, sent us these photos. This beast belongs to Shawn KB8UFI. As always, click on the photo for the largest image.

Alright, alright…. Not bad from this angle…

Woah…. Are those antennas? Antennae?

Something tells me that glass is going to have a hell of a time closing after a few years…

Like a nerdy Marshall Stack….

Passengers? Of course…. who knows what’s living in that pile.

Thats the kind of AHOLE who is going to take that vehicle into the shop for warranty work on the passenger seat THEN bitch because the techs “ruined his install”. And somebody needs to clue him in that radiation patterns are AFFECTED by close proximity to other antennas.

  2. n5ksk says:

I never get this… why not several multi-band radios instead of four of the same thing? is it absolutely necessary to listen to 4 or 5 two meter repeaters at the same time?

    And who would want to?

  3. JohnnyGalaga says:

What’s the lightbar for ? Fucken whacker.

  4. k2thz says:

Just once I would love to hear one of these whackers deliver a calm, well-thought-out explanation of the necessity of having so many radios and antennas. Why, why, WHY?

Can’t forget to rip on him for the dashlight – because if you’re getting in the way at an emergency scene, that zillion-candlepower beast on your roof might not be enough.

    And why four scanners?!

Obviously you cretins have no idea what art is.

KB8UFI sees his Jeep not as a vehicle, but a palette. In Christo like form he stacks not just a handful, but a full 10 radios in a column. The placement was well thought out unlike the haphazard chaos of the Red Porcupine. The install not only displays much in the form of balance (note the lack of metal mounts) but is an ergonomic masterpiece.

You will also note that the space above the dashboard has remained revered and no rigs were placed in a manner to obstruct the view of the road, wherever it may lead.

Lest we not forget that HamSexy is the Louve of hamateur art such as this go anywhere talk anywhere jewel. We should duly show our appreciation of this work with noses held high.

At least he cleaned out the fast food trash before the took the photos.

  6. VE3HBD says:

I’m a little more concerned with the fact that a lot of the radios don’t appear to be attached to anything…. one wrong bump or swerve on the freeway and buddy’s being showered with radios.

  7. k8mhz says:

The HF rig on the seat isn’t even connected to anything like an antenna or a power source. The others just seem to be sitting on one and other, don’t they? I wonder if we are seeing a new use for double sided foam sticky tape.

  8. VE3HBD says:

    Hah! You’re right!!

I never noticed that…. Never though it was strange there aren’t any HF antennas either.

    Future development, perhaps?

  9. kitn1mcc says:

No No No No No No No No

What was this shit Dick thinking .. it is just Awful

i could see it a joke or a one time thing for crazzzy pics but that looks real

Is that some sort of new floor mat!?! I love using motorola external speakers for floor mats.

Obviously people like this seem to spend alot of time in their cars. Which makes it hard to believe that in all that road time, they never have to make quick evasive manuevers on the road. If he ever hit the brakes to avoid a deer, his fucking windshield would be GONE. What an idiot.

  12. va3igd says:

Hmmm, two ears and seventeen radios, go figure!

  13. VE3HBD says:

KC0JAR: Yeah, windshield gone… not to mention a few hundred dollars worth of radio, and possibly the hood of his car when the momentum-soaked radios hit the end of the slack on their power cords. . . . . .

  14. ku4my says:

As embarassed as my daughter is by my car with only two amateur radio antennas on it she would SHIT if I pulled up in that thing to pick her up from school.

Someone needs to be turned on to the FT-100D or ICuM 706 MkIIG, for examples. Stupid bastards like this is what puts us on the radar screen to be banninated like cell phone users who just don’t understand ‘hands free’ equipment. Fun is fun, being an idiot is….. well…… being an idiot.

  15. kb9vwp says:

No wonder why he has 4 V-8000s- he is only a no code tech!! What a waste. He should donate some of those radios to underprivelaged hammers like me 🙂

  16. k8mhz says:

“No wonder why he has 4 V-8000s- he is only a no code tech!!”

    Matt,

How do you know if he has passed his CW test or not? Your license shows you as a tech as well. Did you ask to see a CSCE before you made your comment?

Why is being a no-code tech a waste?

Now, I do see a bunch of wasted coax, but then I know where to get relays for almost nothing….

I am surprised that no one has asked if the roof has ever needed degaussing in order to repair the digital compass.

  17. kb9vwp says:

I wasn’t saying that being a no code is a waste- I was taking about the radios. I wasn’t tring to say that I was any better than him by any means..

  19. k8mhz says:

It is rumored that there will be more gear and antennas to come. Pictures may or may not be available depending on if Shawn wants to feed the sharks or not.

I did pass on all of your sincere concerns for his safety but he still thinks you are all a bunch of vile, foul mouthed morons.

After some consolation, I think I have him convinced that you aren’t all morons, just vile and foul mouthed, which I don’t see as overwhelmingly aberrant considering the crowd that hangs out here.

    Hahha!! We are very kind.

    Schizotypal personality disorder.

    * Unusual perceptual experiences, including bodily illusions odd thinking and speech (e.g., vague, circumstantial, metaphorical, overelaborate, or stereotyped).

    * Suspiciousness or paranoid ideation inappropriate or constricted affect behavior or appearance that is odd, eccentric, or peculiar.

    * Lack of close friends or confidants other than first-degree relatives excessive social anxiety that does not diminish with familiarity and tends to be associated with paranoid fears rather than negative judgments about self.

    * Does not occur exclusively during the course of Schizophrenia, a Mood Disorder With Psychotic Features, another Psychotic Disorder, or a Pervasive Developmental Disorder.

  22. Lenny says:

    I like it.

Allthough the power cords could have been routed differently.

Maybe through a section of that black plastic stuff that is slit down the middle.

That might not be big enough for this rats nest, some 4 inch plastic tube might be better.

Whacker heaven, it doesn’t get much better that this.

  23. n5api says:

Shit… I have trouble listening to two frequencies at once on my dual bander! How in the hell is he going to listen to all those radios at once? Not to mention the safety hazards and whacker factor mentioned above. This guy is an embarrassment to the hobby! Ok, I’m done ranting now. 🙂

  24. Eric (N4EMS) says:

Is it just my observation or is the a disproportionately high number of these types from my home state, the Winter-Wonder-Wasteland of MI?
